Comparing Listings
How to use your saved homes list to evaluate properties side by side and make a confident decision.
Using saved homes as your comparison list
The most effective way to compare listings is to save the ones you're interested in, then open them side by side in separate browser tabs. Your Saved Homes page keeps them all in one place so you don't need to hunt for them again.
To save a listing, click the heart icon on any listing card in search results, or click the heart at the top of a full listing page. You'll need a free account to save — if you don't have one yet, you'll be prompted to create it.
What to compare
When evaluating two or more homes, these are the most useful data points to put side by side:
Price per square foot
Price alone is misleading when two homes are different sizes. Divide the list price by the square footage to get a per-sqft figure. A home priced at $450,000 with 1,500 sqft ($300/sqft) may be more expensive on a normalized basis than one listed at $520,000 with 2,200 sqft ($236/sqft).
Bedroom and bathroom configuration
The number of beds and baths matters, but so does the layout. A 3-bed/2-bath with the primary bedroom downstairs is a different home than a 3-bed/2-bath with all bedrooms upstairs. Use the full listing page — especially the description — to understand the layout beyond the numbers.
Year built
Older homes often mean lower price but higher maintenance costs. Newer builds may come with HOA fees or builder restrictions. The year built appears in the spec sheet on every listing detail page.
Location and commute
Open a listing page, copy the address, and paste it into any map app to check commute times, proximity to schools, and neighborhood walkability. The site doesn't provide real-time commute data, but the address is always available on the listing detail page.
Days on market
A listing that's been sitting for 60+ days in a fast market may have a problem worth investigating — or it may simply be overpriced, which creates negotiating room. A fresh listing in a hot neighborhood gives you less leverage.
Practical comparison workflow
- Save every property you're seriously considering to your Saved Homes.
- Open your Saved Homes list and open each contender in its own browser tab.
- Work through the comparison points above for each property.
- Remove homes from your saved list as you narrow down — this keeps the list actionable.
- When you're down to your top one or two, inquire directly from the listing page to start the conversation with the agent.
If you're working with a buyer's agent, share your saved homes list URL with them — it gives them an instant picture of what you're considering without requiring a long explanation.
